 Musical Director & Conductor, Michael Gelfand, and the GSO are delighted to announce our 89th Season for 2017/18!


Our first concert of the season is Sept. 24th at 3 p.m. in the Passavant Memorial Center at Thiel College. “Unite the World in Music” will showcase the GSO and internationally acclaimed Bulgarian Maestro, Svilen Simeonov, in a program of heartwarming and exciting orchestral favorites by Dvorak (Slavonic Dance), Schubert (Unfinished Symphony), Mascagni (Intermezzo from Cavaleria Rusticana), and Mahler (Adagietto from Symphony No. 5). Maestro Simeonov will also conduct the exciting Hungarian Rhapsody by Liszt as well as music from his native Bulgaria. The concert concludes with the powerfully dramatic and famous Ride of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner, which was heard in the movie soundtrack for Apocalypse Now.


On February 3, 2018 at 3 p.m., the GSO presents “Will You Be My Valentine.” With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the GSO presents a program of timely and timeless music by Mendelssohn (Wedding March), Saint-Saëns (Bacchanale), Kreisler (Liebeslieb), Gardel (Por Una Cabeza from Scent of a Woman), Nina Rota (A Time for Us) and Elgar (Salut d’Amour). No Valentine’s concert would be complete without music from Fiddler on the Roof and West Side Story. Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet rounds out the program. AND, there will be a few mystery pieces on the program as well as a few prizes for the lucky winners!


The GSO’s Spring Concert on Saturday, April 7th at 7:30 p.m. is a wonderful concert for animal lovers, “All Creatures Great and Small.” Everyone who loves going to the zoo will delight in hearing music that illustrates snakes, donkeys, horses, butterflies, bumble bees, lions, ducks, cats, wolves, elephants, panthers, monkeys and more! GSO performs On the Trail by Grofë from the Grand Canyon Suite, Mariposas Exoticas (Exotic Butterflies), Dancing Snakes, I Wan’na Be Like You from The Jungle Book, Leroy Anderson’s Chicken Reel, Mancini’s Baby Elephant Walk and the Pink Panther, and music from the Lion King.Please join us for this unique, fascinating and fun program!


This Season, the GSO presents a very special holiday concert “Deck the Halls” on Saturday, December 16th at 3 p.m. This is a fundraiser and tickets are sold separately from your season ticket package. The concert is filled with wonderfully joyous and festive music performed by vocal soloists, choruses, and of course our wonderful GSO! Guest coloratura soprano Emily Misch sings Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate and Bernstein’s Glitter and Be Gay, and guest bass/baritone Alan Anderson will perform “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch!” The SAY Chorus and GACT will delight us all with their fine singing. The GSO will perform Christmas Festival Overture, The Bells of Christmas, Festive Sounds of Hanukkah, Dance of the Tumblers, Christmas at the Movies as well as audience sing-a-longs. Please get in the spirit for the holidays with us at this most colorful concert!
