Musical Magical Morning

Attention Schools!

Greenville Symphony Orchestra Children’s Concert
Tuesday, October 29, 2019 - 10:00 AM

On behalf of the Greenville Symphony Society, I personally invite your students to attend the 2017 GSO Children’s Concert on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at the William A. Passavant Center, on the campus of Thiel College in Greenville, PA, beginning at 10:00 AM.  Please feel free to forward this invitation to appropriate personnel within your school.

For over 45 years, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra happily provides, free of charge, a unique opportunity to experience live symphonic music via the GSO Children’s Concert.  This free concert is a continuing commitment by Greenville Symphony Orchestra to provide cultural enrichment for youth in Mercer County and the Shenango Valley.  Transportation, however, is the responsibility of each school.

The 2019 Children’s Concert “Musical Magical Morning” will include pieces such as The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a symphonic poem by the French composer Paul Dukas, based on a poem by by German author Johann Wolfgang Goethe.  By far the most performed and recorded of Dukas's works, its notable appearance in the Walt Disney 1940 animated film Fantasia starring Mickey Mouse, has led to the piece becoming widely known to audiences outside the classical concert hall. GSO conductor Michael Gelfand will demonstrate orchestral instruments.

All students will stand as a group and conduct the orchestra in three different time signatures with Conductor Michael Gelfand. Packets will be delivered to the contact person and music teacher of your school. If you do not receive a packet after registering, please let us know.

Please RSVP by October 15th or at your earliest convenience to guarantee seating, to the contact info below. Please include the name of your school and the approximate number of those attending, indicating which grades will be present. For planning purposes, we are also asking for the number of buses/vans accompanying your students. I will respond to your reservation when received.

We look forward to hearing from you soon and seeing you and your students at the concert on October 29th! Plan to arrive early.  Latecomers cannot be seated after the concert has started.

Best regards,
